A Healthy & Happy End to Summer

Image result for end of summer bbqSummer’s (sadly) coming to a close. I’m sure by now you think you have it all figured out and can throw the best BBQ party anyone has ever been to. However, I’m willing to bet there are many things you haven’t even thought of when it comes to hosting a healthy feast for your family & friends. In this post, I’ll give you some of my tips as well as some healthy ideas to end the summer of 2016 with a bang! Let’s get started!

One of my favorite ways to cook is on the grill. I wish that I lived in a climate that made this possible year-round but since I don’t right now…I’m stuck with it being summer only. Grilling gives everything such amazing flavor and it’s super easy for prep and clean-up. When people think of BBQ, they typically think of burgers and hot dogs BUT there are so many more options! You can make chicken, turkey burgers, vegetables, fish…virtually anything your heart desires. You can also use this BBQ time as meal prep for your week ahead. Grill some extra meats and you will be set for the entire week! The best advice I can give anyone when preparing for a Labor Day BBQ…or any get together – spend a little extra time planning the menu. Think of your guests and what they like…but also think of healthy options. Make your list, check local sales, and head to the store for those items. By being a little prepared, you will end up being a lot less stressed and your entire event will run much smoother.

In addition to the grill, you will need to think of snacks. One great option to pair with platters of chips, pretzels, & crudités is Chobani Mezé Dip™. Mezé Dips™ are made from Greek yogurt and real vegetables with only natural, non-GMO ingredients and no artificial flavors or preservatives. They come in flavors such as Roasted Red Pepper, Chili Lime, Three Pepper Salsa, and Smoked Onion Parmesan. Best of all, they are low in calories and good for you! Try that instead of traditional dip or hummus this weekend 🙂

As far as side dishes go, have your guests bring something they love. This will keep everyone involved and cut down on your own prep time…and expenses.

Now then…the drinks. I’ve written about this in a previous post however this is such a common diet buster at get-togethers…it’s worth mentioning again. You have to be smart about it. Enjoy a light beer or skinny cocktail but save the calories for the delicious food instead. Trust me, you won’t regret that choice!

Lastly, and my least favorite – cleaning up. The best part of a BBQ party is how low maintenance it all really is. Head to your local Dollar Tree or dollar store and stock up on paper goods – tablecloth, napkins, plates, utensils, cups – get it all. While you’re there, get a few bowls and aluminum tins as well. When the party is over, you can throw everything away!! The only clean up required will be your grill (and putting away any leftovers, of course).

No matter where you go or what you do this weekend, make sure to enjoy every second. Life is too short to spend it unhappy. Stay safe  & stay healthy everyone!

Take Fitness on Vacation

It’s hard to believe…or even accept…but summer is almost over! With Labor Day weekend upon us, I thought this would be the perfect time to share some of my tips for staying fit on vacation!
Let’s face it – we’ve all been guilty of considering a vacation our “reward” after dedicating ourselves to eating healthy and working out. It’s perfectly fine to indulge a little and let yourself truly enjoy your vacation. However, you can make tons of memories without destroying all of your hard work!
For starters, you can keep up with your workouts! One of my favorite ways to get some exercise while on vacation is to run or walk by the beach! Get up a little early and hit the boardwalk before the heat kicks in! You can even add some strength training to the mix. Be creative and just soak in the moment – after all, it’s not everyday that you can run next to or on a beach! Another great idea – hiking! Find a trail or mountain near where you’re staying and spend your morning exploring. You can even include your whole tribe on the fun! Lastly, when all else fails – workout in the hotel! Even if the hotel you’re staying at doesn’t have a gym on-site, you can get creative and workout in your room. A short workout to begin the day is better than none at all 🙂
Now, the hard part – food & drinks. I’m okay with indulging here and there – especially if it’s foods you would not be able to get or wouldn’t eat at home. However, often times people use a vacation as an excuse to just eat everything in sight. You’ve spent months getting ready for this vacation – so why throw it all away now? You can still eat reasonably healthy while enjoying a few treats from time to time. Pick and choose! For instance, if you want that Belgian waffle for breakfast make sure to have a salad for lunch and a sensible dinner. If you want to enjoy a few pina coladas poolside, just make concessions elsewhere throughout your day.
It can be hard to stay on track especially when you go to a fast-paced place like Las Vegas. Las Vegas is known for many things…but being a healthy vacation destination is not one of them. However, you can make it work no matter where you are! In Las Vegas, you can enjoy all of the sights and sounds the town has to offer…by walking the strip!

The Las Vegas Deals page on Vegas.com has deals on tours of that very strip as well as tours of the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, and more! It’s the perfect way to exercise while exploring & enjoying time with loved ones. Vegas.com also offers some fantastic deals on hotels & those once in a lifetime shows that only Las Vegas can offer. Go check them out!
Whether you’re hitting the Vegas strip, heading to the Caribbean on a cruise, or just heading to your nearest shore point, you can still be healthy while making memories that will last a lifetime. The most important thing to remember is to enjoy yourself and not spend every waking second agonizing over a few extra calories or a few less workouts. Don’t stress it; just do your best to be as healthy as possible while having the time of your life.

2016 Health & Fitness Expo

This past weekend, I attended the annual Health & Fitness Expo at Metlife Stadium…and it was bigger & better than ever before!! In fact, this collage doesn’t even begin to justify how amazing it truly was.

As usual some of the NY Giants, past and present, were on hand for the weekend’s festivities. Fans were able to walk the field, kick a field goal, run the ball, tour the locker room, see the championship trophies, and even meet some of the players. Truly a priceless experience for any football fan, young or old.

For the fitness buffs on hand, there were so many different classes…for all different skill sets. Everything from zumba to grit and much more in between. They even some classes geared towards children. Former Giant and fitness guru, Steve Weatherford, was on hand again this year for both days of the event. Weatherford is truly the nicest guy you will ever meet. He goes out of his way to make sure he is making everyone happy – whether it’s with a motivational speech or by taking countless pictures with fans. Last year, I was able to catch him just walking on the field…and the photo I got isn’t the best. So this year, I decided to wait on an actual line and do things the right way. The result was priceless.

Living the dream…Super Bowl ring included 😉

Besides the football fan experience, the best part of this expo, for me, is to be able to meet so many people throughout the fitness industry. I love talking to people and hearing their stories and their perspective. We can all learn something…so why not learn from one another?! You can also learn about different products and companies…which as a fitness coach, is extremely beneficial. I’d like to know what products my clients are using…and exactly what it is that they are putting in their bodies.

I got to test out some of the products too. That famous “tea” which is all over Instagram…I have no idea why anyone would pay for something so vile. It’s truly disgusting. You want to detox??? Eat clean and go sweat it out. Stop the madness people. Seriously. Another thing I saw was that stomach wrap. Ladies…I realize you want flat stomachs and small waists but go to the gym. There is no need to harm your insides wearing a contraption that won’t make you lose weight. Will it make you sweat? Probably…but that’s about it. You will end up doing more harm than good in the long run. Also seen….Isotonix. I have heard people say that they use their shakes so I went over to see what the fuss was about. The man promoting this spoke of his a lifestyle, which consisted of drinking a shake for breakfast and dinner…AND eating extremely unhealthy at lunch. Really?! I can go on and on about shakes but the bottom line is this – they won’t work long term. You and I both know you will not live on them…so once the food comes back…so will the weight. It’s not only an unhealthy way of living…it’s extremely unrealistic for sustainable weight loss.

It wasn’t all bad though. I got some awesome & healthy samples of things such as almonds, apple slices, and sugar free chocolate covered cranberries! I was able to learn more about Nature’s Own vitamins and was given an entire book detailing every one of their supplements. I also met a lady named Susan, who works with a supplement company called ID Life. She was not only extremely sweet…she was realistic about the products. She gave me her own experience with the products and explained how it can be applied to real life. She also gave me some samples, which I will be testing out and reviewing in the weeks to come…so stay tuned!

As always, this expo went down as another amazing experience filled with lots of networking and football fun. If you are in the NY/NJ area, you should definitely make plans to attend next year’s extravaganza. Every year it gets bigger & better! Next year, I am hoping to be part of the expo & perhaps have my own table where I can offer advice & coaching to the masses! A girl can dream…and with this expo the possibilities are endless and the experiences are priceless.

Until next year!!

1st Phorm Product Review: Adrenal Restore

For the last 10 years, I have suffered with Chronic Fatigue. Many symptoms come and go but the fatigue is always present. I’ve taken vitamins, gotten injections, and tried various other remedies but nothing has worked. Until now.

Enter Adrenal Restore, from the awesome people at 1st Phorm. This has truly been my magic pill. I’ve been using it for about three weeks now and it has completely changed my life. I went from barely being able to move out of bed to being back at full speed in the gym, while balancing the rest of my hectic life. I have tested it by using it a few days then taking a few off. Let me tell you – I feel a HUGE difference when I take the pills. The aches and pains are almost non-existent, my energy is insane, and even my sleep has improved.

Here’s a little background on the pills themselves and how they help you:

From 1st Phorm: “The potent ingredients of Adrenal Restore reduce physical and mental stress, minimize caffeine headaches, reduce cortisol levels to help minimize fat storage and optimize natural energy levels.”

Since beginning these pills, I have drastically cut down my coffee intake – going from a MINIMUM of 4 cups per day down to one. My energy levels have been much higher than it has in months so I haven’t needed that extra caffeine boost. I also notice that while I may not be getting extra hours of sleep, I feel much more rested when I wake up. Best of all, I am able to lead a normal life without the aches & pains wearing me down.

More from 1st Phorm: “Your Adrenal glands play a huge role in your every day function and how well your body operates. They are responsible for some major hormones like DHEA, Cortisol, Progesterone, testosterone, Adrenaline and over 40 others. These hormones can be thrown out of whack due to the strain placed on your adrenal glands through training, stress in life, anxiety patterns, stimulants, and countless external stressors. No matter what gender someone is, they are susceptible to the negative side effects of having there hormones being out of whack. This is where the term adrenal fatigue comes in: being chronically tired, trouble getting up after good sleep, cravings for food, getting sick more easily, not feeling the effects of stimulants like caffeine, feeling over whelmed… and the list goes on. Now, Adrenal Restore is an all-natural product designed to help reduce those side effects and get your adrenal glands back to proper function. This is done with the vitamins and herbs in the capsules. Here is a list of ingredients. You will see that the ingredients listed are proven to be antioxidants, fight fatigue, improve memory, normalizing blood sugar, boosting your immune system, and mood enhancing.”

*As a word of caution: Even though this is a natural supplement, if you are currently on prescription medication you should consult your physician prior to trying these pills.*

I don’t like to promote products for the sake of doing it. This blog is all about sharing my journey to help others facing similar struggles. I truly believe that this pill can help many others who are suffering, just as it helped me. If you are interested in learning more about this product or any others, click here or send me an email at the address below. I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

#TryDry – Dove Dry Spray Product Review

I’ve been a part of Influenster for a while now and they have some pretty great products. Recently, they have sent me things to review on this blog. The latest? This new Dry Spray deodorant from Dove.

I was really excited to receive a Dove product, as I am an avid user of their products. However, this made me hesitant because I’ve never been one to use spray deodorants. Quite frankly, I don’t trust that something that goes on wet will actually keep me dry. Well….this spray proved me wrong.

The spray goes on in a thin layer and is dry within seconds. It also doesn’t leave any marks on your clothing (see picture below.) I decided since I was hitting the gym hard today, I would put this spray to the test…and I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. If I’m being completely honest…it worked even better than my regular stick deodorant.

I highly recommend this product. Whether you’re putting in hard work at the gym or at the office, this product will work wonders. Go check it out! 🙂
