Every Body is Different

Every body is different. We all know that and it sounds really obvious….but sometimes it’s not that simple when you are trying to lose weight or look a certain way.

For much of my life, I strived to look like various celebrities. From Katie Holmes (the Dawson’s Creek years) to bad-ass hall of fame wrestler Lita to the innocent but insanely gorgeous Jessica Simpson, I always idolized someone. It’s taken me a long time to realize this but every body is different. No two people are made the same. You can do the exact exercises and follow the same diets but you may never look the same.

While I may have finally come to face that reality, it doesn’t mean I can’t still look to others for inspiration. Recently, Instagram seems to be where people are finding their muse. I’ve used it for motivation and have gained much insight from some of the trainers that I follow. Hard as it may be to accept, no matter how hard I work I will never look as cut or jacked as some of these ladies…and that’s ok.

My body has undergone years of yo-yo diets and weight loss/gain. Unfortunately, I am paying the price with some excess (or baggy) skin. I can do 1,000 crunches a night, do a million tricep dips, or use that thigh master machine at the gym until I’m blue….it will always be there. There isn’t a huge amount but I can tell that it’s there and I recognize that with it I will not get the results that I want.

Maybe it’s part of the journey or maybe it’s just maturity but I really am coming to love my body…flaws and all. I know I work very hard and give it my all every single day. So while I may dream of that shredded body, I know that this one has overcome many struggles…and continues to battle everyday. I may wish that I didn’t have stomach issues…or at least that someone could figure them out…but I don’t think I would want a new body. The baggy skin…the stretch marks…they are what makes me, me. They are like my scars from a battle that I fought….and won.

For anyone who reads this, know that every body is unique…and truly special in it’s own way. Whenever you struggle just remember how hard you work and how far you have come. You may not be where you want to be…but I bet you are nowhere near where you began. This journey is full of ups and downs but the best part is that it never ends. We continue to grow and evolve each and everyday.

I’m living proof that no matter what challenge stands in your way, it can be overcome. It hasn’t been easy…but it sure has been worth it. Work hard, lift heavy, and NEVER GIVE UP!

Stay strong & stay in the fight!
